Composite Decking Material vs PVC Decking Material
Composite decking products are a blend of materials. Composite decking contains real wood "flour" and fibers, as well as plastic products (hence the term “composite”decking). In many cases, the plastic is recycled from milk jugs, plastic bags or other materials that would otherwise be taken to a landfill. Additives such as fiberglass, waxes and preservatives may also be included. PVC decking products are composed entirely of plastic resins. Some products utilize virgin plastic (Gossen Passport), while others contain recycled materials (Gossen Trailways, fallout from Passport). While this decking material does not contain any wood products, some decking material known as cellular PVC (Gossen) contain a foaming agent to make them look and perform more like real wood decking material. |
Composite decking products are made usually of plastics and wood fibers mixed together. If you look closely at most composite decking, you can see the composite wood fibers in the surface of the board.
